Five Packing Tips For Hand Carried Luggage
If you want to keep sight of your luggage wherever you go, then you can opt to hand carry your luggage. Unlike checked-in luggage, hand-carried luggage is significantly smaller and easier to lug around. You need not wait to claim yours at the baggage claim counter as soon as you arrive from your flight since the hand-carried luggage is with you all along. Here are some packing tips and ideas for you on your hand-carried luggage.
1. Be attentive of the luggage size permitted for hand-carried luggage. Your bag should never be huge enough for you to comfortably carry. Carriers have a sample box usually at the boarding area. Your luggage will need to fit inside the sample box for you to get a go signal to hand carry it. Failure of your luggage to fit the sample box will compel you to check in your bag instead.
2. Prioritize which items to include in your hand-carried luggage. Those that are replaceable and are relatively cheap to buy can stay in your checked-in luggage, but definitely stash for hand-carrying if you decide to bring the following gadgets and gizmos: your laptop, your cellular phone, your charger and maybe a spare battery or two.
3. Pack by compartments. Smaller bags are easier to keep track of and pull out, compared to fumbling for a particular item amidst an entire mass of unsorted items. You can compartmentalize your luggage according to the priority with which you will use the item. Pack the items which you will often need to retrieve in the topmost layer, or in the pocket of your bag. You can also group the items by type:
* Place all your cosmetic items inside a transparent and trendy bathroom bag: make-up kit, lipstick, eye liner, lip plumper, perfume and brushes.
* Inside a pencil case, store the following items: your pen, paper clip and hair pin. You may also so want to include your sticky notes and receipts here, as well as prescriptions for any medication you will be bringing with you.
* Bring along a mini first aid kit to store the following items: your medication, some vitamins and pills, as well as bandages. Do not forget to bring your prescription in case the airport personnel checks on your luggage.
4. Make sure you can indeed handle your luggage. Remember that you will need to do some lifting to place your luggage inside the overhead compartment of the plane. Other options will be to stash the bag under your seat, that of the passenger before you, or to simply just keep it beside you if your luggage is small enough. Technically, hand-carried luggage is exempt from the weight requirement characteristic of checked-in luggage. You don't have to hold it as you would an attaché case though. Backpacks and tote bags make great hand-carried bags.
5. Keep the most vital items close to you at all times: your wallet, your passport, your boarding pass, your cards and other items of extreme importance to you and for your flight. You may want to use a smaller hand-carried bag in addition to the one which you already have.
