Five Packing Tips When Traveling With Liquid Items
One major packing problem is stained clothing and this can be a traveler's dilemma if many of the packed clothes are dirtied. This usually results from poorly packed liquid items like shampoo, perfume, soaps and other liquid products. To keep this from happening, here are some packing tips.
1. Always consider the part or area of the suitcase you are going to place these liquid items in. If these items are contained in semi-rigid or glass bottles then you might want to refrain from putting them on the sides, especially if you are using a soft sided luggage bag. This will keep them from bursting or breaking once your luggage bag is forced into a tight space after you check it in. If you do so, you will certainly end up with stained clothing.
2. Position the bottles in an upright manner. In simpler terms, when you are dragging your suitcase the bottles inside it should be standing up and not the other way around. This will keep the contents at the bottom of the bottle and not on the tip, which makes it prone to spillage. So when packing, make sure that liquid items are placed upright.
3. If you want to be extra careful, you can always tape the bottle caps. Taping them will certainly keep them closed and prevent spillage. This should be done especially when you are using a soft sided luggage bag where the contents can get compressed when forced into small spaces in between other luggage bags in flight. Compression can result to bottles bursting, especially if it is a semi-rigid bottle. Taping the caps securely can help reduce or prevent damage caused by spillage.
4. Still if you find taping the bottle caps not enough, you can always opt to placing these items inside zip lock bags. You can either place it inside without taping the caps or after taping the caps. Placing these items inside these bags is a good way to keep your clothes safe from stains and from getting wet in case one of the bottles burst or break. In case this happens, the contents are contained inside the zip lock bags keeping your clothes safe.
5. If you are packing items contained in glass bottles like wines, then do not place them side by side when you pack. Most travelers take along some souvenirs like wines. If you are saving space by ditching the box, then avoid placing the wine bottles together side by side, because it might end up breaking.
To keep that from happening, you either place a piece of cloth in between the bottles or you can wrap the bottles with one of your shirts. Your shirts will provide cushioning that can keep these bottles from breaking and eventually staining your clothes.
When traveling with liquid items contained in semi rigid or plastic bottles or even glass bottles for that matter, always take the extra step of sealing it, in order to keep the contents from spilling unto your clothing and then staining it.
