Four Don'ts In Packing
The key to packing wisely is knowing what to pack and what not to pack. Although it is good to bring your own stuff, there are times when it is better to leave it behind than go through all the process of having to pay an extra amount for the excess weight. Here are some ideas on the items that you should leave behind.
1. There is no denying that women tend to have a lot of beauty products that range from hair products, make up products and even skin and body products. Often times, these products weigh more than the rest of the baggage. These products also take a lot of space and at times can result to some staining when these are poorly packed and these end up spilling on your clothes and other items inside your luggage.
Just because you are travelling doesn't mean you have to take your strict beauty regimen with you. One way to solve this is by using the toiletries offered by some hotels. Most of the time these toiletries are composed of soap, a shampoo and conditioner, which are enough to keep you clean.
However, you can always bring combo products like shampoo and conditioner combo or tinted moisturizers that have SPF. Using combo products can certainly save you a lot of space and a lot of extra weight. So remember, do not pack the whole bathroom with you; innovate.
2. Do not pack all your jewelries. If you are traveling to exotic places where there is really no need to accessorize, you might want to leave these valuable pieces at home. This is essential especially if you are staying somewhere other than a hotel with high security.
Bringing a lot of valuables can make you a target for thieves and individuals who simply want to take advantage of you and the items that you are bringing along. If you are trying to blend in with the local people, avoid wearing flashy jewelry like diamonds and other gemstones; this can make you a moving target. If you really have to bring some jewelry, make sure that you keep it inside the safe in your hotel room. lock it and use it only when the occasion calls for it.
3. Guidebooks and maps can be helpful especially if you are traveling to a place you've never been to before. However, bringing about a dozen of them is really not a good idea. If you come to think of it, most of these guidebooks contain the same information, so one or two can do the job.
If you pack a lot of these guide books you will certainly take a lot of space and of course, add some weight on your luggage that you can end up going beyond the limit. If you need a lot of important information, you can always photocopy that particular page. This way you won't have to bring along a lot of guidebooks.
4. If you are going for an overnight trip, do not pack clothes that can last for a week. When going for a short trip, pack only enough clothes. Packing too many clothes can only result to added weight on your luggage. It will also take up a lot of space, so you will have to take a bigger luggage bag, which is really unusual if you are only going away for a day or two.
